This valve is commonly used to isolate individual zones or sections of an irrigation system, allowing water to be shut off to one area without affecting the rest of the network. It is also used in rural and agricultural water supply systems as a local shut-off point near a branch takeoff, a livestock watering point, or the entry to a building or field.
Installation follows the same general process as other compression fittings, with the pipe ends cut square and fully inserted before the compression nuts are tightened on each side. Because the valve's usefulness depends on it being reachable, it is generally installed at an accessible point along the pipeline rather than buried without any means of access.
