This fitting is often used to add a sampling point, pressure gauge, small dosing valve, or drain cock to a main chemical distribution line, without interrupting the main pipe run itself. It is common in electroplating baths, chemical dosing systems, and process piping in laboratories or industrial plants where periodic monitoring or a secondary connection point is required.
Because the branch is generally a smaller, secondary connection, installers should avoid placing excessive mechanical load on it — for example, from a heavy valve or instrument that is not independently supported. As with other threaded PPH fittings used in chemical service, thread sealant compatibility with the specific process fluid should be confirmed before installation.
