PPR Pipe PN1.6 Hot & Cold Water Pipe

PPR Pipe PN1.6 Hot & Cold Water Pipe is rated for combined hot and cold water service, making it one of the more commonly used pressure classes in general residential and commercial plumbing. Compared with the PN1.25 cold-water-only class, PN1.6 pipe is generally manufactured with a somewhat thicker wall at the same outer diameter, giving it the additional margin needed to handle both hot and cold water under normal domestic operating conditions.
As with other classes in the PPR pipe range, PN1.6 pipe is produced from polypropylene random copolymer resin and is designed to be joined using heat-fusion welding, matching the connection method used for PPR fittings throughout the system. Because it covers both hot and cold applications, this class is often used as a general-purpose pipe where a project does not require the higher pressure or temperature margin of the PN2.0 or PN2.5 classes.

Application Scenarios & Installation

PN1.6 pipe is commonly used for general plumbing distribution in houses, apartments, and light commercial buildings, covering both the hot and cold water supply lines to fixtures such as sinks, showers, and washing machines. Because it is rated for both services, it is often selected as a standard, all-purpose pipe class for a project rather than mixing separate cold-only and hot-only pipe classes.
For projects with higher-temperature hot water systems, greater pressure requirements, or larger buildings where a higher safety margin is preferred, PN2.0 or PN2.5 pipe may be more appropriate; specifiers should check the expected operating temperature and pressure of the system against the pipe manufacturer's rated performance for each class before making a final selection. As with all PPR pipe, proper fusion welding technique and appropriate pipe supports are important to the long-term performance of the installed system.
