PPR Equal Socket Pipe Fitting

PPR Equal Socket Pipe Fitting, also known as a PPR straight coupling, is one of the most basic components in a polypropylene random copolymer piping system. Its function is straightforward: it joins two lengths of PPR pipe of the same outer diameter into one continuous run. Despite its simplicity, it is a load-bearing part of the system and needs to hold up to pressurized hot and cold water over the long term.
Socket fittings of this type are typically injection-molded from PP-R80 or PP-R100 raw material, which is the common resin grade used across the PPR fittings industry for its mechanical strength and suitability for potable water contact. The fitting connects to the pipe through a heat fusion (socket welding) process: the pipe end and the fitting socket are simultaneously heated on a fusion machine, then pressed together so the two plastic surfaces melt and fuse into a single wall. Because the joint is fused rather than threaded or solvent-glued, there is no separate sealing element that can wear down over time, which is one reason PPR socket connections are a common joining method in plastic plumbing systems.
For installers and distributors, the PPR equal socket fitting is a frequently used part for extending a pipe run, repairing a damaged section, or connecting two pre-cut pipe lengths on site. As a plastic fitting with no metal components, it generally does not corrode or scale the way copper or galvanized steel couplings can over time. Its internal bore is designed to match the pipe's inner diameter closely, which helps limit unnecessary flow restriction or turbulence at the joint.
This fitting is offered across a range of diameters and pressure classes to suit different plumbing needs, and specific size, pressure rating, and certification details should be confirmed against the manufacturer's current product specification sheet before ordering.

Application Scenarios & Installation

The PPR equal socket fitting is used where a straight, permanent joint is needed between two PPR pipes of the same diameter. In residential plumbing, it is a common part for extending a cold or hot water riser through a wall cavity, joining pipe sections around structural obstacles, or completing a run longer than a single stock pipe length. In commercial and hospitality projects, contractors also use this fitting to build out horizontal distribution mains on each floor.
It is also used in light industrial and irrigation piping, where PPR is often chosen over metal piping for its resistance to corrosion in humid or chemically active environments, and in HVAC systems for chilled or heated water circuits. During installation, the fitting is fused on site using a PPR fusion welding machine: both surfaces are heated for a set dwell time based on pipe diameter, then joined under pressure and left to cool before the line is put into service. Because the fitting is typically available across a range of sizes, it can generally be matched to the pipe diameters used elsewhere in a project.
